Thailand, which fell out of the top ten places in the world to retire during 2016, has not made a return appearance in 2018.
A respected annual report from International Living Magazine, which incorporates many factors including property into The Retirement Index, has named the South American country of Costa Rica as the best place to retire in 2018.
The Land of Smiles, which was ranked as the seventh best country to retire in 2015, has failed to make the top ten list this year.
Perhaps most concerning for Thailand is the neighbouring Malaysia has made it into the list, as the fifth best country to retire in 2018.
The authors of the report cited Malaysia as have low rental costs, low utility costs together with hobbies and pastimes that will not break the bank.
Malaysia also topped the “Entertainment and Amenities” category of the Retirement Index in 2018.
“It’s a gastronomic delight, and the street food here is hands down the best in Asia,” the authors wrote.
