Beware: It’s only marketing

Condo of the Year

Not for the first time, a listed property developer has used the ‘Condo of the Year 2018’ marketing gimmick in a lazy attempt to attract attention.

The facts are that none of the condos carrying the ‘Condo of the Year’ tag have won anything.

What’s perhaps most surprising is that this marketing gimmick originates from listed property developer Property Perfect.

In an unrelated fact, shares in the property developer have fallen more than 20 percent since the start of November 2018 until today.

What’s upsetting is that there are genuine award winners, not only so far as Thailand is concerned, but also more widely in Southeast Asia.

Thailand does have some outstanding condo developments. These, in our opinion, do not come close in terms of state-of-the-art design or facilities for owners – facts that normally contribute to an Award.

Yes, we know that some Awards are paid-for but in this case, it seems Property Perfect has just regurgitated a previous marketing gimmick for its own benefit and to, possibly, deceive potential buyers.

Advertising in Thailand is part of the Consumer Protection Act, and we would imagine this particular claim will fall foul of being a statement which causes misunderstanding, or even one which is false or exaggerated.

All that said, we suspect absolutely nothing will happen. But at least you know.
