Real estate businesses topped the list of new companies established during 2017, according to Thailand’s Department of Business Development.
The number of new businesses registered with the government last year reached a record high of 74,517 companies.
The Director-General of the Department of Business Development, Kunlani Itdisai, said today that 6,305 new companies registered their businesses with the government in December 2017 alone, an increase of 43 percent compared with the same period the previous year.
Most companies are real estate businesses, she said, followed by gold shops and general construction companies.
During 2017 the number of new companies registered with the government increased by 16 percent year-on-year. The increase beat the Department’s forecast of 70,000 companies.
This year the Department expects the number of new companies registered will total 75,000. Most will again be in the construction and real estate sectors, it noted, due to the Thai government’s investment in infrastructure development.
